My husband worked in the shipyards before I met him. We were married for 32 1/2 years when we learned that he had Mesothelioma - caused from asbestos. He had been diagnosed over the years with bronchitis, emphysema and pneumonia (more than once). So when we went to the emergency room Christmas morning, I was sure that he had pneumonia again. We spent the Christmas holiday in one hospital and moved to another hospital to ring in the new year. January 2, 2009, is when our diagnosis was delivered. He passed away in the early morning hours of January 13, 2009.
Mesothelioma leaves the body defenseless...he couldn't fight anymore! Asbestos is not only in the shipyards. He was also exposed to it in other areas such as automotive parts, construction materials, chemicals...it is even found in our homes and schools.
